Note from the Chair – The Value of First Aid Training and a Defibrillator

“At Greetland Football club we place significant emphasis on the safeguarding of others and this summer we embarked on a significant programme of training to ensure that all Greetland FC coaches were up to date with safeguarding and first aid training.

Last week during a veteran’s midweek league fixture at Brooksbank secondary school in Elland, an opposing player collapsed on the pitch with what a heart attack. Without a second thought, the Greetland players jumped into action and commenced with immediate CPR whilst other team members collected the pitch-side installed defibrillator device.

The defibrillator did its job and the individual concerned was brought back to life prior to the arrival of an ambulance. What an amazing achievement from all concerned and it is worth noting that the defibrillator was only installed around 12 months ago in partnership with Greetland FC and Brooksbank school, following a similar incident where another mans life was also saved following the Greetland players administering CPR until the arrival of the ambulance services.

To support the ongoing learning and development of our coaches and staff and to make sure that they have all the tools that they need should the worse happen and they have to deal with an emergency situation, the club will be running additional first aid/defibrillator training courses in the very near future”.

Kind Regards,
