Well, yet another season is now well underway for us all and I hope you have enjoyed the first couple of weeks. Hands up, has anyone been late for a match yet because they cannot find shin guards? It is always shin guards.
I love the start of a season, as it offers so much hope and opportunity. Of course, it is always lovely to win a game of football but making new friends, developing in a team sport, learning new social skills and generally having fun is key in my view.
From a club perspective, I am delighted to say we have the highest volume of players connected to the club ever, with a whopping 540 players registered. Whilst this is wonderful news, my biggest regret is having to turn players away, due to teams being full. I would say, on average, via our club website I receive 3 or 4 enquires per week asking to join our club. Some we can accommodate, others we are unable to due to being oversubscribed in some age groups.
Whilst there is lots happing on the pitch, as ever we are working hard off the pitch also. Here is a little summary of the ‘goings on’ at Greetland:
- On 9th September GOLDS held their annual festival which was well attended by Greetland FC. Thank you to those volunteers from Greetland who took part in helping to run the day. Many of the teams raised much needed funds for new equipment by hosting a Penalty Shoot-out stall.
- This week we will be holding our first Manager’s Meeting of the Season. If anyone has any feedback they would like to be raised via their manager please feel free to mention. We are always looking for ways in which we can improve our club for all involved.
- Over the summer we have been working on upgrading our main changing room and this is nearly complete. Please see our before and after pictures-what a transformation!
- Some of you may notice that we have also been working our pitches over the summer to improve drainage and grass quality. This work will be ongoing throughout this season as well, as we strive to provide the best playing facilities that we can.
Finally, I know we have promoted this previously but if you have a second, have a little look at our still relatively new club website, below. The news section is being updated on a regular basis, with little articles that bring to life the magnificent work here at Greetland.
Welcome to Greetland FC – Greetland FC
Anyway, continue to enjoy your football and if you need any support in any shape or form, please do not hesitate in reaching out to either your Coaches/Team Managers or myself directly.
Regards,
Ian Chapman
